Ice Paint

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

         Ice cube tray

         Water

         Food coloring

         Popsicle sticks

         Watercolor paper

HOW TO MAKE ICE PAINT:

Fill an ice cube tray with water, but don’t overfill it.

Add a small drop of food coloring to each well.

Drop in a different color in each for a rainbow effect!

Cut a popsicle stick in half and use the flat edge to mix the water & food coloring.

Leave the popsicle stick in it and freeze overnight.

Tip: To paint with ice cubes, use watercolor paper for the best results. Watercolor paper is designed to absorb that amount of water. Regular paper will likely begin to fall apart from the wetness. You can get watercolor paper at your nearest arts and crafts store as well as major retail stores like Walmart or Target.

Toothbrush holder DIY with Dinosaur toys

Brushing your teeth is an important part of taking care of your body.

*please ask a grownup to help you because some sharp tools are needed for this craft

What you need:

Plastic toy dinosaur

Hammer

Screwdriver

Scissors

How to make this:

Place a screwdriver in the middle of your dinosaur’s back and tap the top with a hammer until you poke a hole through

Keep hammering until you get through to the other side. The hole is tiny so use your scissors and cut a cross pattern in the hole. From there, cut out mini triangles from the cross until you create a circle.

Shape the hole until it fits your toothbrush. Make sure that the hole is big enough so your toothbrush doesn’t get stuck!

*thanks so much to guppytales.wordpress.com for this awesome craft idea

Dreamcatcher DIY

Note: Grown up help may be needed for this craft

Gather your supplies…

Colourful beads (different sizes, textures and materials)

A sturdy twig or wooden dowel

Thread, string or twine

A needle (rounded end or plastic for younger kiddos like me)

Scissors

Step 1

Prepare the needle with string, twine or 2 or more strands of thread

Tie several knots

*a tiny bead will prevent the bigger beads from sliding out of the thread

Step 2

Thread the beads through the needle and continue beading until you are happy with the length.

Keep at least 3 inches of extra thread exposed so you can attach the beaded strand to the twig or dowel

Step 3

Continue making more beaded strands

You can make them all the same length and size or not! This is your project so let your creativity shine

Step 4

Attach the beaded strands to the twig or dowel by wrapping the thread around the it and tying 2-3 knots to keep it secure

Step 5

Cut 2 or more strands of thread to the twig or dowel so you can hang it up

Step 6

Hang it where it will catch some sunlight!

*thank you to lifeovercs.com for this beautiful craft idea

Please don’t put any of the beads in your mouth.

If you make a suncatcher I’d love to see it!

Cardboard tube hippo craft!

Thanks to creativefamilyfun.net for this super special craft idea!

What you need

  • Empty cardboard tube (from a toilet paper roll or a paper towel cut to size)

  • Small piece of thin cardboard (from a cereal or cracker box)

  • Two different shades of grey craft paint (darker color and a lighter color)

  • White craft paint

  • Glue

  • Googly eyes

  • Black marker

How to make it!

Begin by painting your cardboard tube with darker grey paint. Also, paint your smaller piece of cardboard with the same paint.

Let each piece dry before you move on to the next step.

Cut two circles from your thin piece of cardboard for your ears.

Use your black marker to color in the center of each circle. Only the top half of your ear will be showing on your hippo, so make sure you can also see the black in the middle.

Next, use the lighter color of grey to paint an oval in the top half of your cardboard tube. This is going to be the hippo’s snout.

Use your white paint to make two square teeth at the bottom of your snout.

Once the paint on your snout is dry, draw two long ovals with your black marker for your hippo’s nostrils.

Glue your eyes above the snout and glue your ears directly above your eyes. You’ll want to glue the ears to the inside of your tube so they peek up from the top.

Add your hippo to your cardboard tube zoo or make a whole bloat of hippos and then maybe put on a puppet show!

If you make a cardboard tube craft puppet anything, I’d love to see it!

Slime

Window collage

Tape a piece of transparent contact paper to a window, sticky side facing up.

Trim colourful pieces of paper into whatever shapes you like and stick them onto the sticky surface.

Hi!

My name is Carmen and I created some hair barrettes the other weekend by hot gluing gems, sequins, letters, Pom poms and feathers to the plain metal clips I found at the thrift store!

The object of the game is to get the golf ball into the holes and score points.

You can try...

A) Rolling the ball with your hands

B) Using a putter or a wooden spoon

C) Kicking the ball with your feet!

What are some of your ideas? I’d love to try them!

DIY Growth Chart

What does growth mean?

Noun:

An increase in size, number, value, or strength.

(biology) The act of growing, getting bigger or higher.

(biology) Something that grows or has grown.

There are lots of ways to make a DIY growth chart.

You can use a Wood Board/Plank or some Fabric…just Google how to make a growth chart and see what pops up! There are lots of videos to help guide you.

Here’s a step by step idea of what you’ll be doing…

(In this example, the chart is called a ruler. Makes sense!)

You’ll need a bunch of supplies before you get started.

Step 1 –

Cut 1×6 Board. First, determine how long you want to make the growth ruler and where you want to place it. ...

Step 2 –

Pre-Stain and Stain. …

Step 3 –

Measure and Mark Feet and Inches. …

Step 4 –

Apply Matte Polyurethane. …

Step 5 –

Tape on Adhesive Numbers. …

Step 6 –

Attach the Kids Growth Ruler to the Wall.

Thanks very much to Victor at

https://thediyplan.com › kids-growthchart for these step by step instructions. When you visit his site, you’ll learn more about what to do to make this a very successful DIY.

___________________________________________

Since I was quite small when mom started measuring my height, she used a 12” wood ruler to record a few years of growth.

When I stood next to the ruler a few days ago, we noticed quite a difference in my height from the last time we measured! We had to move the ruler and do some calculations!

That’s when we decided it was time to design and build a bigger chart.

What you do:

Stand up straight against the wall where the growth chart is drawn or built.

The grown up can now mark your height with a marker or crayon

When this project is done, you’ll be able to keep track of how much you’re growing

BTW: We all grow at different rates. And some people will grow quite tall, while others will always be quite small. So it can’t be a contest to see who grows the fastest or the tallest.

House hippos don’t get very tall at all and grow at a very very very slow pace.

It’s not the height that counts, it’s the heart! ❤️

If you have a growth chart now or make one someday, I’d love to see it!

Just send a photo to iggythippo@gmail.com

 Snowy Day Activities

Thanks a whole lot to HGTV and Emily Fazio for these awesome ACTIVITY IDEAS for the whole family!

How much snow has fallen?

You can make your own personalized snow measurement stick by painting an old ruler or paint stirrer!

Just mark along the length in inches/cm and whenever it snows, you can figure out how much it snowed by doing the math!

Snow ice cream!

What you need

  • ¼ cup white sugar

  • 1 cup milk (you can use condensed milk, but skip the sugar)

  • Cones or cups

  • Sprinkles

  • A whole bunch of clean fresh snow

How to make it!

Mix the sugar, vanilla, and milk together.

 Pumpkin bird feeder

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

A small pumpkin

Tinfoil

Sticks

Birdseed

String to hang

First of all, cut your pumpkin in half before scooping out the seeds.

Then, use a screwdriver to make three holes to tie a string and three holes for 3 sticks for the birds to sit on.

Make sure to poke some holes into the bottom of the pumpkin so any rainwater that is collected can drain out.

Then, put in some tin foil to hold the birdseed. (Be sure to make some holes in the tin foil to let rainwater drain out.)

Finally, tie the string evenly and secure it onto your washing line or a tree branch.

What a great craft idea!

Thanks so much to the fine folks @ https://www.familydaystriedandtested.com
