Iggy Interviews A Professional Hair Stylist
Today I got to interview Miss Judy, the owner of Glo Hair Salon located in Stuart Florida.
She’s a talented hair stylist who expertly cuts, styles and colors my mom’s hair. She’s really nice too.
Hi Miss Judy! It’s so nice to see you! Thanks so much for saying yes to this interview!
Where were you born?
I was born in Providence, Rhode Island.
What’s a fun fact about that place?
Rhode Island is the smallest state of the United States of America. It only takes about a little under an hour to drive through Rhode Island.
What was your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school was Writing.
What is a special memory you have as a kid growing up?
One special memory I have as a child growing up was when all of my family would get together on Sundays at my grandparents home. I have a very large family, 11 aunts and uncles and 54 cousins. It was always so much fun!
Did you have any pets growing up? Do you have any now?
My first pet was a Chihuahua named Pepper. He was black and liked to roam around the neighborhood. Everyone in the neighborhood knew Pepper. He was always a lot of fun. Now I have a white Maltese named Blitz. He is 7 years old. He is probably the smartest dog I have ever had. He is wild and a little bit crazy but is a lot of fun.
Do you prefer sweet or salty food?
I prefer sweet over salty food.
Do you prefer cooking or baking?
I prefer baking.
Is there someone in your life (past or present) who inspires you?
My mother inspires me. She taught me how to pick myself up and keep going when things get hard.
If you could go anywhere on a holiday, where would you go?
I would go visit the Dominican Republic.
Do you play any musical instruments?
I do not play any musical instruments, although I have an interest in playing the piano. Maybe someday I will.
What dream do you have in your heart that you hope will come true someday?
I dream that one day I will write a book and it will be published.
When you were a kid, did you sometimes cut your dolls' hair?
When I was a kid I cut many of my doll’s hair.
Where did you go to school to learn hair styling?
I went to Arthur Angelo’s School of Cosmetology and Hair Design.
How many months/years did you spend in hair styling school?
I spent a year in cosmetology school, the equivalent of 1500 hours.
What do you like best about being a professional hair stylist? What do you like least about it?
What I like most about being a Hairstylist is making people feel really happy and beautiful. There isn’t anything I don’t like about being a hairstylist.
If you could cut/style anyone’s hair, (past or present), who would that person be?
If I could cut/style anyone’s hair it would be Donald Trump’s hair lol!
What advice would you give a kid if they wanted to become a professional hair stylist?
My advice would be to pick a career that you really are interested in and think you would enjoy. I feel that Hairstyling is a profession you have to be passionate about in order to be successful.
Thanks a whole lot for sharing this time with me, Miss Judy. I really appreciate it! 🙂
*A hairstyle, hairdo, haircut or coiffure refers to the styling of hair, usually on the human head but sometimes on the face or body. The fashioning of hair can be considered an aspect of personal grooming, fashion, and cosmetics, although practical, cultural, and popular considerations also influence some hairstyles.
The oldest known depiction of hair styling is hair braiding which dates back about 30,000 years. Women's hair was often elaborately and carefully dressed in special ways, though it was also often kept covered outside the home, especially for married women.”
