Iggy interviews an Entrepreneur

What does being an entrepreneur mean?

According to www.wordhippo.com , an entrepreneur is…

  • A person who organizes and operates a business venture and assumes (is responsible for) much of the associated risk.

  • A person who strives (aims, makes an effort ) for success and takes on risk by starting his own venture, service etc.

As you can see from this definition, an entrepreneur is someone who believes that they can accomplish great things by doing some hard things and they are willing to take risks to make their dreams come true.

Often, an entrepreneur will create a job for other people which of course helps more dreams to come true!

I happen to know an entrepreneur! She’s an inspiration to me and a lovely friend.

It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Deanna.

Hello Deanna! Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed today so that our readers can learn more about you!

Where were you born?

Hello Iggy, so happy you invited me.  I was born in Halifax, N.S.

What’s a special memory that you have about being a kid?

I know this will sound silly, but I remember a beautiful day when I was 4 years old.  It was a hot summer morning and I was outside in my jammies!  I remember feeling so free.  The sun was hot, the flowers were in bloom and I was full of joy and happiness in my backyard!

What did you like to do with your friends?

I loved to ride my bike.  I had a shiny blue bike that my Godfather had given to me.  It was so pretty.  It had training wheels and streamers on the handles.

Did you always have an entrepreneurial spirit? What are some examples of that?

Always!  When I was six (this was a little naughty) I took some of my mom’s trinkets without asking!  I set up a table on our front lawn and had a sale!!!  Mom caught me and made me stop.

Another time, some friends and I found a turtle.  Mom said I couldn’t keep him.  So, I went door to door trying to sell him to a good home.  People would buy him, but they wouldn’t take him.  Finally, I found his forever home.

What was your favorite subject in school?

My goodness!  I really did not have a favorite subject in school.  Snack time was the best.

Do you like to cook or bake?

I love to cook.  I cook all the time.  Healthy and delicious meals.  It is so important to eat right and cooking helps me do that.  Also, I find cooking relaxing!

What’s your favorite meal?

My favorite meal is sketti!!  I even have a song that I used to sing with my dad.  It goes... sketti, sketti, S.K.E.T.T.I.  Sketti, sketti, S.K.E.T.T.I.

(Spaghetti!!!)

What’s your favorite dessert?

My favorite dessert is tiramisu.  It has coffee, lady fingers and cheesy cream.  Yummmmm!

What makes you super happy?

So many things make me super happy.  My family, my hard work, my kindness and the sun.  This is all I need.  So grateful for everything.

What makes you feel sad?

I feel sad when someone is having a hard time.  When someone is down and things are not going their way.  I always try to lift their spirits.  This makes me happy again!

What are some of the businesses that you have developed and worked at?

Oh my goodness! I have had many businesses over the years. The most fun one was a Christmas Tree business. We would buy lots of trees wholesale and sell them for two weeks at the Ottawa Christmas Craft Sale, now known as Originals. We also sold wreaths and centerpieces. It was so much fun helping people find their special tree! It made me happy.

What have you learned about yourself as a risk taker?

I do not feel like I am a risk taker. Everything is calculated. I know and understand how the business will work. I do what makes me happy. It must come from my heart. I must be passionate about it.

And, I usually have a back-up plan, just in case.

What do you like most about being an entrepreneur?

I love the flexibility and freedom it provides. I love being able to use my creativity to create whatever I want.

Are there things that you don’t really like about it? If so, how do you deal with those things?

Once in a blue moon, I would like to call in sick, but I can’t because who would I call? I would be calling me. 😀 And business must always go on.

Do you have any pets?

Our family has a cat. Her name is Casey Cat. She is black and white. She sometimes has a bad ‘cattitude!’. She likes attention.

Who has inspired you in your life? And why?

My parents have always inspired me. My mom taught me determination and strength. My dad taught me honesty and loyalty. Both of them taught me the value of hard work and taking care of things. All of this I use everyday as an entrepreneur.

If you could have one wish come true, what would that be?

That’s easy! My wish is for everyone on the planet to work towards being as authentically happy as they could and should be. And that is especially true for all my family members and friends. Everyone can do it, everything they need is inside! They just have to dig deep and clean out the cobwebs. 😀

Thanks so much Deanna for spending this time answering my questions. It was fun to learn some more things about your personal and professional life.
