Iggy interviews a Professional Chef
My mom and her friend went to a restaurant for dinner and lucky for me, she brought home what she couldn’t finish. I had it for my lunch and it was really delicious!!!
I knew I wanted to interview the Chef who prepared it so I could discover more about this very talented person. And lucky for me, he said yes!
Hello Chef Edward! Thanks for taking some time to answer my questions today... Where were you born?
I was born and raised in Ottawa.
What’s a special memory you have about being a kid?
My most special memory about being a kid is visiting my grandparents every weekend to have dinner.
When did you know you wanted to be a professional Chef?
I decided to become a professional Chef after graduating from engineering.
Did someone inspire you and encourage you to follow your dream of becoming a Chef?
No, I just decided to make a career change and put my artistic skills to use.
Where did you go to school to learn how to do what you do?
I attended Culinary school at Algonquin College as an Apprentice.
Do you remember the first meal you made as a professional Chef?
Yes it was in 2015. I had to create a 3 course tasting menu.
Do you have a favorite meal?
Yes I do. My favorite meal would be during Chinese New Years that would consist of many delicious delights.
What do you like best about your job?
The best thing about my job is to try new and exciting ingredients from local farmers to specialty suppliers around the world.
What do you find most challenging about preparing meals for people?
The most challenging thing about preparing meals for people are the many dietary restrictions many individuals have to date.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
On my days off I would either catch up on errands and or take time to spend time with family and friends.
Do you have any pets?
Yes I do. I have a four year old cat.
What’s your dream holiday?
My dream holiday would be to travel to Hong Kong and China.
Do you play any sports?
I play some badminton and outdoor hockey during the winter.
What’s your favorite season?
My favorite season is summer because I love to fish and go out for bicycle rides.
What advice would you give a kid if they wanted to become a professional Chef?
My advice would be to be open with new ingredients and to travel the world to and try cuisine from other cultures.
