Iggy interviews his big brother Matt

Matt is my big brother.

He’s super nice, and super smart and super funny!

Hey Matt! Thanks for saying yes to being interviewed today!

Where and when were you born?

Ottawa, Ontario. 1993, at the Ottawa General Hospital.

Did you live anywhere else?

Nope, always been a local in Ottawa.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

Maybe New Zealand, but I’ve heard it's very windy, so maybe I’ll choose the south of France.

I know you didn’t have any human brothers or sisters…what did you like best about that? What did you like least about that?

It was always fun to be able to decide exactly what I wanted to do as a kid, but it would have been easier to not have to rely on meeting up with friends to have someone to play with.

Do you remember a favorite lullaby or song or poem that mommy used to sing or say to you?

That one by Robert Munch, can’t remember the name.

(Love You Forever)

Where did you go to school?

I’ve been to three schools during my education. For elementary I went to Bishop Hamilton. For middle school and high school I went to St. Peter. And for university I went to Carleton to study history.

What was your favorite subject in school?

History and geography was always my favorite, it was an easy choice to study it in university!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A race car driver, hasn’t changed, I still want to do that, haha

What was your favorite toy growing up?

Probably my skateboard if that counts, or my Playstation 2, or my MASSIVE Lego collection that always sprawled out on the living room floor.

What kind of games did you play?

I played lots of video games with Dad and built Lego with Mom.

What did you do for fun?

We were lucky to grow up in the country so there was always something fun to do outside, both in the winter and the summer!

What events stand out to you from your childhood?

All the family vacations in the wagon queen family truckster.

Did you have any special interests growing up?

I loved following hockey and staying up to date with skateboarding.

Did you play any sports? Do you still play them as a grown up?

I used to play hockey, and skateboard. I also used to play golf and snowboard, I still do these depending on the season.

What was your favorite family vacation?

Any of the trips to Nova Scotia or the cottage weekends throughout the summer

I’ve also been to Florida, Italy, and Cuba!

What is the longest car trip you’ve ever made?

The 15 hour drive to Nova Scotia is always a long one!

Is there someplace you’ve always wanted to go but have not gone yet?

I’ve been to Italy but I want to visit the rest of Europe.

Did you have a nickname growing up?

My full name is Matthew so I guess my nickname has always been Matt. Except that my mom used to call me Pookie, but don’t tell anyone.

(😀)

Do you have a job?

Yes, I work as a leading Penguin Migration specialist stationed at the Charlie Outpost in Antarctica.(😀)

(Matt works in a company as a recruiter…he helps people find their dream job!)

What was your first job?

I worked as a media transmission specialist. AKA a paper delivery boy.

Who has changed your life?

My family and my best friend definitely have had the biggest impact on me as a person.

What are your hobbies?

My favorite hobbies are still golfing, playing video games and playing sports.

What types of books do you like to read?

I usually read historical fiction or mysteries.

What are your favorite sports to play and to watch?

My favorite sport to play is definitely golf and my favorite sport to watch is usually football but my team is terrible this year, so I’ve gotten back into watching hockey.

What’s your favorite snack?

French fries, any time of the day…it’s always a hit.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I love getting outside during the summer and exploring by camping or hiking. In the winter, I’m much more interested in staying inside and watching a movie or a documentary.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but have not done yet?

Move from Ottawa and explore somewhere new!

Thanks again Matt for taking the time to answer my questions today. I really appreciate it.

I love you Matt and remember….never ever give up on your dreams! ❤️
